This is probably the best Indian restaurant in Broomfield. The food is absolutely awesome. I have had my share of Indian food and most of the times, I have had stomach trouble afterwards. But not in this case! The food at the Azitra is astonishingly Indian, yet the spiciness is just right so as to ensure that patrons don’t have their tummies to bother them later.
I have always loved Indian food since the time I was in college living with an Indian roommate. She was the one who introduced me to Indian food and she cooked me some pretty amazing meals. The vegetarian food of the country is absolutely stunning and I am sure that one won’t miss the meat at all if one were given Indian vegetarian food all week! Anyway, the Azitra is a place I am going to visit many more times. I had gone there with my boyfriend on a weeknight last week and we had a lot of food! For appetizers, we ordered the Subz Samosa and the Gobi Manchurian. Both the dishes were fabulous. The Gobi Manchurian is spiced just right and does not have too many flavors that take away from the actual vegetable: the cauliflower. As for the main course, we ordered the Vegetable Vindaloo and the Saag. The Saag was excellent: creamy, rich and keeping the spices to a minimum. The meal came with Naan (which is an India flatbread) and steamed rice and we had the main courses accompanied with these.
Desert was Payasam, a sort of rice pudding, though a lot more flavorful and spiced. Absolutely wonderful.
If you have never tried Indian food because of the high amount of spices used, I say go to the Azitra. It is going to change your view of Indian cuisine forever.
Though this time we had a vegetarian meal, the next time we are probably going to try out their non-vegetarian section. Most of the people in India stay away from beef and pork and hence you will find Azitra serving a lot of goat, lamb and chicken. The Chicken Tikka Masala is probably the most famous Indian dish all over the globe but at Azitra, it is really not that spicy. The flavors do not overwhelm and rather they complement the chicken’s tender meat. Also, a friend of mine recently dropped in at this restaurant and she really liked one of the seafood dishes (she doesn’t remember the name of the dish) and the Lamb Rogan Josh. I plan to try them the next time I visit.
The Azitra is an upscale restaurant and the service may actually seem a little OTP, if you know what I mean. The staff is very attentive and you will rarely (if ever) have a glass that has not been refilled. The alcohol section is fairly large and the wine list is worth checking out. We were not drinking on this day so we stuck with soft drinks. Definitely worth recommending to all.
